Zandiyeh complex in Shiraz

Karim Khan-e Zand Complex is the most outstanding attraction of Shiraz which comprises of Arg-e Karim Khan (Karim Khan Citadel), Karim Khan Bath house, Vakil Mosque and Vakil Bazaar.

Karim Khan Citadel( Arg-E Karim Khan):From the outside of Kaim Khan Citadel, you can see the long and majestic walls of the castle with crenelations inspired from the ancient city of Persepolis. Upon entering the citadel you have to cross an octagonal shape saloon which is in fact for protecting the privacy of king’s family and there are some small platforms provided for taking a short rest for the people who came to visit the king. When you pass this hall, you enter into a wonderfully beautiful attraction which comprises of a stylish Persian garden with all the elements of a typical Persian garden such as porches, ponds with nice and delicate designs, high roofs with monolithic stone and wooded pillars. Inside the rooms, you can see decorations of golden floral motifs. Besides, there are colored windows in red, yellow, blue and green to add to the beauty of this residential palace and also to avoid unwanted insects and animals from entering the rooms. The shape of decorations and the pool and many other things inside the palace has Toranj-like patterns or citrus fruits. The palace has had a bathroom especially constructed for its residents. There is also a small wind catcher above the pond in front of the pavilion on top of the roof. Across from this castle on the other side of the street you can observe a pavilion and a magnificent building which had been originally constructed for the foreign guests of Karim Khan-e Zand. Now it has been converted into a garden and a museum full of many priceless antiques from the Zandieh, Qajar and Pahlavi eras.

Vakil Bath:The next attraction that Karim Khan-e Zand had built in Shiraz during his kingdom over Iran was Vakil Bath House. It is a public and big bath for almost all the people of Shiraz with different occupations who are shown using statues and clothed in those distinct jobs. This bathroom takes you to the past time around four hundred years ago and you can sense life of people from Shiraz at that time. Inside the bathhouse, there are many scenes carved and marvelous stucco works depicting stories of Iran’s history, religion and literature. This place gives you a taste of the culture and history of Shiraz, Iran.

Vakil Mosque:Near this bathroom, a spectacular mosque had been constructed for the people of Shiraz to do their daily religious duties and say their prayers. This mosque’s entrance has a portal with great tile works in colors of green, blue and yellow which gives every body a relaxing effect. The mosque is colossal with a central pond inside its yard which reminds the religious people when doing ablution of the temporary world in this transient life when their faces fade away in the reflection of water waves and they attest to the greatest power in the universe that is the Almighty.  

Vakil Bazaar:The last place you can visit and enjoy is the traditional bazaar of Shiraz which is full of fascinating goods such as carpet, pistachio, handicrafts and so many other things you can buy to take with yourselves as souvenirs from your Iran trip to make your travel around Iran a more memorable one. This spectacular bazaar can be very attractive to you with its great architecture and traditional merchandise. Do not forget to shop for the nicest souvenirs in this great bazaar, market and at the same time a unique attraction in Iran during your Iran tour. You can also visit Saraye Moshir at the center of Vakil Bazaar in Shiraz which is comprised of a series of stores selling jewelry and other silverware besides lots of other miscellaneous things you can buy as souvenirs at this tourist-oriented part of bazaar.
